/With official word coming down that the Sabres and Rangers will meet for the next Winter Classic, David Kerr took a stab at some unique throwback-inspired sweater designs.
A Long Hockey History
/If you want a Maple Leafs jersey that hits most of the highlights of Toronto's hockey history, look no further than this entry by David Kerr. He writes:
The logo builds off two of Toronto’s oldest pieces of hockey history.
First, the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Hockey Club (est. 1891) who represented Canada at the 1928 Olympics, winning the gold medal. The Varsity Blues also have the longest running hockey program in the city of Toronto.
Second, the Toronto Arenas (est. 1917), the precursor to the Maple Leafs. The Arenas were a member of the original NHL.
The sweater design is reminiscent of the 1934-1937 uniform worn by the Toronto Maple Leafs during some of the first years that the franchise spent in the historic Maple Leaf Gardens.
Leafs Through a Century

The current Maple Leafs uniforms will be retired after this week as the team introduces a new look for their 100th anniversary season. But they'll also have a series of throwbacks throughout the year. David Kerr images some of them in today's concept.
Desert Freak Out
/David Kerr wanted to do this to the Arizona Coyotes. I'm not sure why. So it's our first Freak Out Friday of the year.
The V Hem

I have always loved the idea behind the "Flying V" jerseys and just felt it was poorly executed. Putting a "V" in the hem stripes is a more subtle execution of the same idea.
