0374: Long Live the Lighthouse

I know the Islanders get featured here an awful lot, but a good concept is a good concept. And this one by Matt McElroy is very good. I don't know why the Islanders have never tried to pursue a lighthouse logo again. Did the 1995 rebranding debacle leave such a bad taste in everyone's mouth that they dare not suggest anything good might have come of it? A third jersey would've been the perfect place to test the waters of a new secondary logo. Instead, we got text on a black jersey — the two biggest no-no's in the third jersey world.

0366: Reviving the Americans

As we embark on our second year of concept posts, I've got a new theme for this week. We're going to be looking at reviving old hockey franchises. Imagine we live in an alternate universe where it was the New York Americans that emerged as the Big Apple's dominant NHL franchise. Imagine the Rangers merged with the Americans and adopted their name 70 years ago. That's what Matt McElroy has done with today's concept.

0345: Missing the NHL All-Star Game

If we hadn't lost the 2013 NHL All-Star Game to the dumbest lockout ever, it would've taken place in Columbus yesterday. In that spirit, we've got a sharp All-Star concept from Matt McElroy today. It's a neat evolution of the previous NHL All-Star uniforms — a set I wouldn't mind seeing on the ice someday.

0329: Sunny Winter Classic

We're taking a brief break from the Waddell Brothers' Winter Classic series this weekend. In its place, Matt McElroy imagines the 2016 Winter Classic — in L.A. of all places — between the Kings and Canucks. Let's set aside the logistics of an ice surface in southern California. What about the looks he's created?

0310: A Visit From You-Know-Who

'Twas the night before Christmas when Icethetics was updated,
With an unusual sweater that Matt McElroy created.
The concept was posted and ready for rating,
But I'll quit with this poem before you start hating.

And to all a good night.
