The MLB Collection, Part 1

Now for something different! David Parkinson has been at work designing hockey sweaters for Major League Baseball teams — sweaters inspired by the local hockey franchises.

(Click the above images to enlarge and view as a slideshow.)

If you're curious, here's a list of what teams David based his jerseys on:

  • Baltimore Orioles based on Baltimore Blades (WHA, 1974)
  • Boston Red Sox based on Bruins
  • Cleveland Indians based on Lake Erie Monsters (AHL)
  • Chicago White Sox based on Blackhawks
  • Detroit Tigers based on Red Wings
  • Houston Astros based on Houston Aeros (AHL, 1994)
  • Kansas City Royals based on Kansas City Scouts (NHL, 1974)
  • Los Angeles Angels based on Anaheim Ducks
  • Minnesota Twins based on Wild
  • New York Yankees based on Rangers
  • Oakland Athletics based on Oakland Seals (NHL, 1967)
  • Seattle Mariners based on Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL)
  • Tampa Bay Rays based on Lightning
  • Texas Rangers based on Dallas Stars
  • Toronto Blue Jays based on Maple Leafs

This covers the American League. Check back next Sunday for the National League.

Ragin' Cajun Pride

This week's College Saturday concept takes us to the deep south. David Parkinson put together a three-jersey set for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Not surprisingly, hockey is merely a club sport down there. But at least they have a team.

Check out their Facebook page for more photos. As you can see, they currently wear the old "Sens" third jersey template. But they also seem to have a custom red alternate.

Silver Kings

As the 2014 Stanley Cup Final gets underway later tonight, David Parkinson presents a shiny new third jersey for the Los Angeles Kings. I'm calling it Stanley Cup silver. (Hope that doesn't jinx anything.)

Turn Ahead the Freak Out II

In 1998, the MLB thought throwback uniforms were getting stale so they decided to spice things up with their Turn Ahead the Clock promotion. They introduced what they thought were futuristic style uniforms. Needless to say, it didn't work out. But it still inspired David Parkinson to put together this Phoenix Coyotes concept. Happy Freak Out Friday!

Even More Olympic Dreams

As the Olympics end, so ends our week of concepts centered around countries that didn't send hockey teams to Sochi. It's inspired a lot of people to submit artwork! Today we start with Brendan Klein who envisions this look for the smallest independent nation, Vatican City.

David Parkinson gives us our first South American team of the week with his take on hockey uniforms for Argentina. They're pretty sharp, actually!

Finally, Hunter Nordhauser takes us all the way to the frozen shores of Greenland.

If you submitted a concept that didn't get posted this week, don't fret. The International Sunday series will continue on so I can show off more of the great work everyone has sent in.
