Kings reveal new third jersey for 50th anniversary
The Los Angeles Kings have revealed the alternate jersey they'll wear during the 2016-17 season to celebrate their 50th anniversary!
The new grey sweater is chock full of all sorts of meaningful details, according to this infographic. For example, a gold outline has been added within the primary logo on the chest and the name and numbers on the back in honor of the club's "golden anniversary."
There's also the requisite hanger effect in the collar. Five gold diamonds set on a Forum blue (purple) backdrop mark five decades in the NHL. And the two stripes on each sleeve commemorate the club's two Stanley Cup championships.
The single black stripe around the waist is a nod to the team's original jersey from 1967. And the shoulders will be adorned with the team's 50th anniversary patch on the right and All-Star patch on the left — that logo was unveiled yesterday.
It's hard to make a grey jersey exciting, but at least there's a lot of significance behind the design of this one. Probably for the best that it's only going to be worn for just one year.
That said, we will see it in action more than a dozen times during the regular season, making it the Kings' de facto third jersey. The gold "Heritage Night" jersey that's been worn for the past few years will make one last appearance on opening night in October.
Here are all the dates from the press release:
The Kings are slated to wear the new jersey for these 14 home games this season (some of these contests are designated as official LA Kings Heritage Nights): October 22, November 5, November 19, November 26, December 10, December 31, January 7, January 14, February 18, February 25, March 4, March 11, March 25 and April 8 (the club’s final regular season home games).
The Kings will wear their original Vintage Gold uniforms only one time this season (October 14 as part of the club’s Home Opener).
