The 2016-17 NHL season sees three teams redesign or alter their primary logos.

• Florida Panthers unveil new logos and uniforms on June 2.
• Pittsburgh Penguins officially switch back from Vegas gold to classic gold in their primary color palette following a season in which they won their fourth Stanley Cup championship.
• Toronto Maple Leafs unveil new logo on Feb. 2 and new uniforms on June 24.

Events

The NHL Draft, Winter Classic, All-Star, and Stadium Series events all return in 2016-17. The more infrequent Heritage Classic also returns for a fourth installment. And the NHL Centennial Classic is introduced to kick off a year-long celebration of the league's 100th anniversary.

Anniversaries

It's a season of memorable milestones across the league as the NHL and Maple Leafs begin their centennial celebrations and the first group of modern NHL expansion franchises hit the half-century mark.

• NHL 100th: Patch on the right sleeve, above or below the number, on every player's jersey across the league beginning Jan. 1 through the playoffs.
• Maple Leafs 100th: Decal on the back of each player's helmet all season.
• Rangers 90th, Kings 50th, Flyers 50th, Blues 50th: Patch on each player's right shoulder, all season.
• Penguins 50th, Coyotes 20th: Patch on the upper right side of each player's chest.
• Senators 25th: Patch on the upper right side of each player's chest from Jan. 1 through the playoffs.

Commemorations

As the league says goodbye to an aging arena in one city, it welcomes a new one in another. Two teams retire jersey numbers, while another memorializes its founder.

• Red Wings say farewell to Joe Louis Arena. The logo was originally intended as a patch for the left shoulder of the uniforms, but was never used that way during the season.
• Oilers celebrate the inaugural season of Rogers Arena with a patch worn on the upper right side of the chest on their home, road and alternate uniforms.
• Flyers pay tribute to franchise founder and owner Ed Snider, who died in April 2016, with a patch on the left shoulder all season.
• Senators honor Daniel Alfredsson on Dec. 29 by retiring his No. 11 jersey.
• Lightning honor Martin St. Louis on Jan. 13 by retiring his No. 26 jersey. It is the first number to be retired in franchise history.
